Congratulations to TONI&GUY Australia Educator and Salon Owner, Joe Habbaki, for taking out the 2018 Hair Expo New Creative Force award!
Below is a Q+A with Joe with Hair Expo Australia.
How did you react when your name was announced as the New Creative Force winner?
I was excited! It happened so fast, all I remember is my team screaming in excitement.
Where did the idea for your collection come from?
I sat down with my creative team and started throwing ideas together. I wanted to be bold and a little different, creative but technically correct.
How do you decide on which models/photographer/MUA/stylist to use for your collection?
Models we cast! They had to have a certain look to what we were going for. My photographers, Anniss and Barton, were amazing, they had me signed up from the second we sat down and met for the first time. I told them what I wanted and they told me they would give me a winning collection, which they did. My MUA is a long time friend Shev Kelly, she is a makeup genius and my stylist Melina De Mina is a true creative and a delight to work with.
In what ways has winning a Hair Expo Award had an impact on you and/or your salon?
It’s giving the salon a little buzz. Our clients are excited as much as we are.
Do you have any hair heroes who you look to for inspiration?
I am surrounded by hair heroes at TONI&GUY. I honestly believe I work with one of the most talented colourists in Australia in Steve Sone. Working alongside him and the team at TONI&GUY Armadale all day inspires me to create and achieve. Our national creative director Katy Reeve is an absolute star, and my business partner Dennis Langford, there’s no other person I want by my side. The amount of knowledge, talent and passion this man has is remarkable, both for us at TONI&GUY and the hairdressing industry as a whole.
