For Katy Reeve, the illustrious title of National Creative Director of TONI&GUY Australia provides firm confirmation of an individual who displays total equilibrium in both strong leadershipand artistic prowess. As the country’s Commander-in-Chief for the world’s most recognized hairdressing brand, Katy’s role is to steer the brand from an overall image perspective under the banner of education. Katy’s role is a multi-faceted position that spans three independent management functions; TONI&GUY Training and Development (Internal Employees), The TONI&GUY School of Education (External RTO) and The TONI&GUY National Education Programme (National Community Education).
TONI&GUY Training and Development
Extensively travelling across the eastern seaboard, Katy is charged with the responsibility of quality assuring the work of the brand’s 200+ employees within 27 salons via ongoing training and development. This function includes but is not exclusive to skill evaluation, tailored programming and salon owner/manager liaison.
The TONI&GUY School of Education
Overseeing the full curriculum development and resource management of the AQF recognized Certificate III in Hairdressing for local and international students; Katy is the primary gatekeeper for all teaching standards and assessment processes.
The TONI&GUY National Education Programme
Underpinned by the world acclaimed TONI&GUY Global Education Programme, Katy has complete ownership of TONI&GUY’s 12-month calendar of events, presenting over 30 courses from the brand’s Academy HQ. From commercial cut and colour techniques to Avant Garde, Katy avidly reviews content and execution plans to ensure evolution in both market trends and teaching methodologies. In 2016, Katy championed the launch of TONI&GUY LIVE – providing logistically challenged salons and hairdressers with access to all education events via live-stream.
Within her portfolio of responsibilities, Katy’s most treasured role is one of agent and mentor to the highly commended Australian Artistic Team that include Wella Principal Educator Jack Morton, 2017 AHFA Newcomer of the Year Nathan Cherrington and Avant Garde sovereign Nadia Semanic. As a consummate team player and keen collaborator, her professional methodology is underpinned by high emotional intelligence and empathy, measuring her personal satisfaction by the contentment of those around her, celebrating success as an equal contributor rather than a spotlighted hero.
With regards to her teaching approach, Katy has a commendable knowledge of commercial infrastructure and operations via a decade of salon ownership, which creates an education style that is totally accessible and client relatable. Creatively, as key conduit between TONI&GUY London and the local market, Katy also holds a position of authentic authority with regard to global hair fashion trends and how to adapt styles within the local market. Katy’s extra curricular schedule is vast, seeing her manage all TONI&GUY sponsor and affiliate events for both trade and consumer facing activations. From large corporate functions with Westpac, to premium fashion parades that include the prestigious BT Runway for Success event, Katy is always commended for her impeccable organization skills and effervescent spirit backstage.
With a family heritage steeped in hair and education, (her father coaching Gianni Scumaci through his apprenticeship and her mother a well loved high school teacher) Katy’s vocation was perhaps in part genetically pre-destined and why she is so often described by her peers as a born teacher.
